Visit to Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida

On January 13, 2010, Dr. Torsten Fischer, Director, DFG India Office, along with Dr. (Ms) Doris Hillger, Resident Representative of the South Asia Institute and Cluster “Asia and Europe in Global Context”, University of Heidelberg, in India and Mr. K. Hariharan, DFG India Office, visited the Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida.

This university is ranked as No. 1 “Private University” in the country by the survey conducted by the Education Times.

The Vice-President, International Affairs Division of the university, Wg. Cdr. S.K. Goel (Retd.), through his presentation, gave an overview of the university as well as the aims and objectives of this institution. It was interesting to note that interesting research activities are carried out at the Amity Institutes of Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and Microbial Technology. Around 100 young researchers are working towards their doctoral degree at these institutions.

Dr. Fischer and Dr. Hillger also made power point presentations, highlighting the activities of the DFG and South Asia Institute respectively. The heads of the various faculties of the university attended this session.

The Founder President of the Foundation of Amity Institutions, Dr. Ashok Chauhan, and the Vice-Chancellor, Maj. Gen. K. Jai Singh (Retd.) expressed keen interest to intensify scientific and research links with German scientists and universities within the framework of DFG funding programmes.
